Black Hills 50 miler 2014 Rematch

I hate quitting!  I think I run long distance races because 1) I can, 2) I enjoy it, 3) Only 1% of human beings do it, 4) I grew up a quitter, with support of my Grandma (bless her heart) and I fight that demon each time I go out and lastly because I want my wife and daughters to be proud of what I accomplish and hope I'm setting a good example of what determination and resiliency can do for you.  With that being said, last year I had double IT band issues and anyone who has had those know how painful that can be especially when you are only at mile 17 of a 50 miler and the trail is relentless.  Anyway I waited all year long for this and got my opportunity again and with the moral support of my beautiful supportive wife, my future marathon daughters, and my friend Christian Trujillo, I mustered up the will to endure and completed my 2nd ultramarathon.

Here I am nearly falling on what was a muddy 50 miles and my friend Trujillo in blue.

Man is he having a good time or what (this was mile 3!)

Here we are with fellow pharmacist Col Lauren Janke.  Finished in 16.5 hrs.  Heck yeah!
Here is Elk Creek, which was thigh high and 1 of 20 water crossings.  I enjoyed it, but Christian was not a fan.  Can't wait for next year.
