Hiking - ahhhh SNAKE!

Eric has a big race coming up, so the week or so before, we decided to take the girls hiking to the river that Eric will have to cross, so he can see how much water is flowing through it.  The hike was one mile to the river, and then one mile back.  The girls did great on the way to the river.  Then they saw how high the water was, and wanted to jump in!  Why not?

We turned back to hike the way back to the car.  Payton and Eleanor were a bit ahead of me and Carley, then Eric and Maggie were right behind us.  We were almost back to the car when I saw some grass moving, and Carley and I looked and there was a rattlesnake!  He started rattling, so we scurried away.  Carley got so scared and was bawling, and my heart was even racing a bit.  I am just thankful that Payton and Eleanor didn't see him!  Or bother him!  They must have walked right on by him.  Girls learned a quick lesson about being outdoors and how we are only visitors.
