Parent Teacher Conferences

I had Parent Teacher conferences yesterday and here were the results:

Carley - Man that girl sure is a surprise.  I try to work with her at home on letters and such, and she just won't do it.  But I see her school work and she is writing sentences and sounding out words herself.  Little Stinker.  The Kindergartners had to take a Math test to see where they were at and Carley scored 100%, which her teacher said is unheard of.  She seems to be just like the older girls in the sense that math just comes easy to them.  Her teacher said she was shy, but she is starting to come out of her shell more and more.

Eleanor - Eleanor's teacher raved about her.  She said Eleanor is going to be President of the United States one day.  She is just a great student.  And she tells the whole class they should be like Eleanor.  She tested at a 6th grade level for reading.  But she still clams up with the teacher asks her questions.  Same as last year.  On tests, she does great, but on verbal things, she does poorly.  She just is so afraid to say the wrong thing, that she just won't talk.  She is also having some anxiety issues at school.  She has a fear of missing something, or forgetting something.  She refuses to eat a snack because she doesn't want to miss any math, and she will hold her pee until the last minute and then cry if she has to use the bathroom because she misses class time.  She forgot her homework folder one day, and it messed up her whole day.  So, we are working on letting her know it is ok to fail or not be perfect.

Payton - Payton has had the same PTC each year.  Organized, stays on tasks, follows directions, gets along well with all students, works great independently or with a group, helps others, has a great attitude, etc.  Really she does no wrong.  This was her first year getting LETTER grades and she got all A's and one B in math.  She has a 93%, and an A is 94%. However, her teacher thought she did great in math since she is a new student and a lot of the concepts are new  She is one point away from an A, so we are betting she will bring that up soon.  She is still trying to find her place in a new school, with new friends, and her teacher notices that.  Hopefully, she will get in a good groove soon and really get comfortable with her new friends.
