Payton's First Communion

I am still new to all of this, so I will try my best to sum it all up as I can. I know that a First Communion is A BIG DEAL in the Catholic church, so I am trying to make it like that for Payton. She was excited, but I am not sure she even understood why she was so excited, or why she was supposed to be excited.
Anyway, they had a rehearsal in the morning. They talked to the kids about where to sit and how they would walk in. I think once she saw everyone else, she settled down a bit. They took a bunch of pictures of all the kids in their Sunday best. We had a small issue with her dress. That was the most stressful part for me. I found her dress online for $24.99, so I snagged it up. Dresses like these can run over $100, so I thought I found a good deal. We tried it on once, and it fit, so it hung in the closet until the day of. We drove to the church in regular clothes, and I took her to the bathroom to change. As I was zipping her up, the zipper broke off, halfway up. oh no. She said this was going to be the worst day ever. I found Mary, the women in charge, and she helped me shimmy the zipper up. We thought, phew!", but as Payton walked away, the zipper didn't catch and the whole thing was opening up. We safety pinned the top, and tied the bow as big as we could, and hoped for the best. Her whole back was showing, and I was just sick about it, but it looked like the dress was supposed to be like that, so we just had to let it go.
Then regular church started, and she has to sit there and was getting restless. But finally, they had the kids come up and they dropped what are called sacrifice boxes into a basket. It is basically, anything she did good the last few months, she wrote down, and put in a box. Then she put them in the basket as an offering and to remember how it felt to do good things. Then they did communion for them. She was a pro. She walked right up and took her wafer, then her wine. I twinged a bit when she took the sip of wine, but that is just from my being raised that alcohol was such a no no. In the car on the way home, I heard Eleanor whisper to her..."So, what did the wine taste like?" and Payton said, "Just sour grapes".  ha ha  Then we were done and I could stop sweating about the dress. They had a reception after, and then we headed home. Now, I have to figure out what to do with the dress. I wanted all the girls to wear it, but I might just find a new one, and pay the higher price. We will see.
Doesn't she look beautiful!!!
All the kids
Walking into church
Taking up her sacrifice box
I could not get a good picture of her, but I finally did!
Do I look a bit stressed?  I was so worried about the dress, and Amelia cried the whole time, I was ready to be done by the end.
The best part - was the air vents.  Ha ha.  They do this every time we go to church.  It is cute until someone sees their panties.
